In the year of 2020, Palestine witnessed a catastrophic situation on several levels; especially on women, who are considered to be a symbol of steadfastness in the Palestinian society. The violation against women is increasing this year as the number of crimes committed from the beginning of the year until the end of May reached 8; therefore, urgent action is needed to protect the lives of the Palestinian women legally.
In the P.D.W.S.A, we're seriously considering the daily living situation of the Palestinian women and striving by all means to establish a national, legal and social vision based on the full recognition of women's role in participation with men to build Palestinian society.
All systems and aspects of daily life in the Palestinian society don't
proceed in isolation from women experiences, efforts and participation in all aspects of life, and this is what Palestinian women have proven for themselves and for the community over long decades.
A report was received on Thursday afternoon, May 28, 2020, according to the Ministry's statement, about the arrival of a girl showing signs of torture and beating to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, thus this required urgent action to monitor the case and determine its details.
After following up with the specialists, the official statement issued by the competent authorities, and they found that the 20-year-old girl arrived Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, with clear signs of beating and traces of torture on different parts of her body, where her condition was diagnosed seriously at that time. Her case was followed up by the medical staff until her death was announced at dawn on Friday, May 29, 2020, and her body was transferred to the forensic medicine office to find out the true causes of death, then the result was that she died because of beating and torture by the hands of her father.
Based on the above:
We in the Association condemn and denounce this heinous crime committed by the girl’s father against himself first, men, humanity, and all of the Palestinian women when he allowed himself to assault his daughter’s life. We condemn without addressing the causes of this crime because it's a clear violation of the local and international laws and charters and social values.
We in the Association call on all the authorities, to:
First: Be responsible and deter anyone who tries to assault the lives of women or even the most basic rights guaranteed to them.
Second: Approving the Family Protection Law from Violence.
Third: Reviewing and harmonizing the local laws in force in both parts of the country with international agreements concerned with protecting women from all kinds of violence.
Fourth: Not to tolerate the perpetrators of crimes of violence against women, and not to appreciate any excuses for the perpetrators of these serious crimes that of course threaten social security and peace.
